A Guide to Your School Library

Libraries are a place of peace and solitude, places perfect to sit down with a delightful book or finish schoolwork you have been procrastinating for weeks now. Yet, a Library can be so much more than that. Not only can you relax in the quiet atmosphere the usual library provides, but it can also exist as an outlet for creativity.

The Lewis and Clark library allows students to explore their creativity in several ways, thanks to the Curators Club; a club dedicated to improving our library.

Here’s a look at what your missing:

Boardgames and Books:

Well, of course the library has books. But have you stopped to see how many different genres our library holds? It has a range of fantasy to manga, non-fiction to romance, historical to sci-fi—every niche has a place in our school library.

Perhaps books aren’t your thing, and you are looking for an activity to do with friends. Don’t worry—the library has that too! Find yourself a board game, a cozy corner, and some friends. You can enjoy the entertainment you receive from a good book or a board game.

Technology:

Do not be afraid to talk to Mr. Robbins in the library and check out an iPad. Why not check out an Apple Pencil to go along with it? iPads can quickly run large apps at the click of a finger. Ditch the stress of the school laptop and download Office 365 on the iPad to meet all your student needs swiftly.

Also, with the Apple Pencil, note taking is easier than ever. Apple Pencils allow you to freehand draw shapes, and Apple will recognize the shape and give you the ideal, most aesthetically pleasing version. Manage your school life better with the library by using iPads and Apple Pencils. You will not regret it.

You can also find drawing tablets in the library. These drawing tablets have possibilities inside and outside of the classroom. Come find out for yourself the powerful instrument of drawing.

Bring all your ideas to life by utilizing the podcast equipment, including microphones and headphones. Share your ideas with the world. In addition, you have the chance to get your hands on a ring light. Act now so you can get dibs on these amazing materials.

Adobe Platforms:

All computers in the library are downloaded with Adobe platforms such as Lightroom and Photoshop. The possibilities with Adobe are endless. You can take your fifth period presentation from drab to fab. Want to edit a photo? Go right ahead! Use any computer in the library to open this world of possibilities that will keep you interested for hours.

Curator’s Club:

The members of the Curator’s Club are the minds behind the library. They are responsible for all library fundraisers, whether that be with the public library, Aunties, or within the school. All the fantastic window displays and other decorations you admire in our library are thanks to them.

Not only are the Curator’s Club members expert decorators, but they write book reviews, and sometimes book tags for Aunties Bookstore. One of the most exciting parts of the Curator’s Club is deciding on what books to buy for our school!

The Curator’s Club meets on Tuesdays after school in the library, aside from the second Tuesday of the month. On that day, there’s a student and staff book club. The first book club meeting is on the 10th of October and is themed around “Banned Books.”

Get involved with both the Curators Club and the Book Club to stay “in the know” about all the fun activities at our home library.

Auntie’s Fundraisers:

Auntie’s is a cozy bookstore tucked away on the corner of Main Ave and Washington. On a rainy day, it is the perfect place to be.

Biannually, the library partners with Aunties Bookstore on Indie Bookstore Day, which falls on the last Saturday of April. During this holiday, students can buy a book and ask the cashier to donate to Lewis and Clark High School. These funds help keep our library updated and fun for students.
